Car Crash Leads to Coast Guard Search

BRADENTON, Fla.- Coast Guard rescue crews are searching for one missing person in Anna Maria Sound after a vehicle ran off the west side of the Manatee Avenue Bridge, in Bradenton, Fla., at 3:15 a.m. today.

Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, Fla., received a call from Manatee County 911 at 3:15 a.m. today, reporting that a vehicle carrying four people ran off the bridge into the water.

Two of the passengers were able to swim to shore carrying a third unconscious passenger. A Good Samaritan attempted to give CPR to the unconscious person on shore, but the person was pronounced dead by Manatee County Fire and Rescue when they arrived on scene at 3:45 a.m.

One survivor was airlifted and one survivor was transferred to Blake Memorial Hospital, in Bradenton. Their conditions are unknown.

The Manatee County Fire and Rescue dive team did not find the missing person when they searched inside the vehicle.

Crewmembers from Coast Guard Station Cortez, in Cortez, Fla., a Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater rescue-helicopter crew from Clearwater, Fla., along with Manatee County Fire and Rescue and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, are searching for the missing person.

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the incident.
