Buffalo Coast Guard advises boaters of planned Army Corps construction activities on Black Rock Canal

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Coast Guard Sector Buffalo is advising recreational boaters who may transit the Black Rock Canal in Buffalo to be on the lookout for construction barges crossing the canal near Colonel Ward Pump Station between Tuesday and July 31.

The US Army Corps of Engineers is conducting infrastructure maintenance and rehabilitation on the Bird Island pier structure across from the Colonel Ward Pump Station on the Black Rock Canal in Buffalo.

A tug and barge combination will be crossing the Black Rock Canal at intervals of about 30 minutes from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Mariners and recreational boaters are requested to navigate at reduced speed in vicinity of the work crews and floating plants and to give way to the tug and barge as it crosses the canal.
