Broken Jet Ski Leads to Coast Guard Rescue

ST. JOSEPH, Mich. – The Coast Guard rescued four teenagers near Hagar Shores at approximately 7 p.m., today after a good samaritan spotted them.

All four were wearing life jackets and are in good condition.

The Coast Guard received a call from a Good Samaritan who spotted the teenagers in the water approximately 500 yards off of the beach. It is believed the jet skis propeller was tangled in some loose line.

Coast Guard Station St. Joseph arrived on-scene in a 25-foot response boat and recovered the four people.

“Wearing life jackets played a role in the safe recovery of these four people,” said Chief Petty Officer Robert K. Lanier, Asst. Public Affairs Officer for the Ninth Coast Guard District. “All boaters, jet skiers and their passengers should wear life jacket at all times.”

The jet ski was towed into shore.
