Bringing Santa to the Villages

Kodiak, AK – For the past 32 years the Coast Guard has been bringing Santa to the remote, and very poor, villages of Kodiak Island. The Santa to the Villages program is sponsored by the Coast Guard Spouses Association of Kodiak and relies on members of Kodiak based units to assist in the distribution of the gifts.

This year a special guest was among those handing out the gifts, Mrs. Lynn Stiles. Mrs Stiles is the widow of Coast Guard LCDR Jim Stiles, who was lost in the crash of the HH-3F helicopter CG-1432 on Feb 19, 1979 180 miles southeast of Cape Cod. While stationed at Air Station Kodiak, Lt Stiles started the Santa to the Villages program. Mrs. Stiles was invited to Kodiak to take part in this years deliveries.
