Body of Eastport Maine man recovered in Cobscook Bay

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The body of an Eastport, Maine, man whose boat sank in Cobscook Bay, Maine Oct. 20, 2009, was recovered by a fishing boat Friday afternoon.

The crew of the fishing vessel Trident located Norman Johnson’s body while they were fishing in Cobscook Bay.

A boat crew from Coast Guard Station Eastport brought Johnson’s body to shore where they were met by the coroner and the Maine Marine Patrol.

“We offer our deepest condolences to the Johnson family,” said Cmdr. Brian Downey of Coast Guard Sector Northern New England.

Johnson, 57, of Cutler, Maine, was one of three men on the fishing vessel Bottom Basher when it sank on Oct. 20.

Also aboard were Daryl Cline, 41, of Lubec, Maine, and Joseph Jones, 29, of Trescott, Maine.

Cline’s body was recovered early on Oct. 21. Jones is still missing.

The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating the cause of the Bottom Basher’s sinking.
