Boating safety day to be held at Dana Point

Dana Point, Calif – The US Coast Guard and US Coast Guard Auxiliary in cooperation with the Ocean Institute of Dana Point, County of Orange Harbor, Parks and Recreation Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Department Harbor Patrol, and Orange County Fire Authority will be hosting a boating safety day on Saturday, October 13 from 8:30 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. at the Ocean Institute of Dana Point.

Flares are required by federal regulations to be carried on board boats for ocean voyages. The Coast Guard will be demonstrating their use. Boaters will be able to practice on the “firing-line” with flares provided by the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

The Coast Guard cutter Narwhal, an 87-foot coastal patrol boat, will be open to the public for tours.

Boaters can find additional information about required safety equipment on the Coast Guard’s Boating Safety web site.
