Boat Touches Down in Columbia River

Portland – The Panamanian flagged motor vessel Ultra Ace scraped the bottom of the Columbia River Wednesday evening near CR mile 30.  There was no apparent damage to the vessel and no water pollution was reported.

The vessel returned to anchorage in Astoria safetly.  The Captain of the Port of Portland has ordered that the vessel complete an underwater hull survey prior to departing the anchorage.

The Ultra Ace was was traveling upriver at the time of the incident.  It left the channel in order to pass another vessel and when returning to the channel scraped the starboard quarter.

The vessel is empty and scheduled to pick up a bulk load of wheat.
