Boat allision claims 1 near Wilmington, NC

Coast Guard District 5 NewsPORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard responded to a fatal boat allision at the Masonboro Inlet near Wilmington, N.C., Tuesday.

A crewmember aboard the boat contacted Coast Guard Sector North Carolina watchstanders via VHF-FM radio channel 22A at approximately 6:30 p.m. stating they struck a rock and one of the three people aboard was severely injured.

A crew aboard a 25-foot Response Boat – Small from Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach arrived on scene and towed the boat back to Station Wrightsville Beach to waiting EMS.

A coroner on scene pronounced the boater deceased.
