Michael Gabriel, a Carson City, Nevada lawyer has purchased the Bloody Point Lighthouse for $100,000. The 125 year old lighthouse is South of Kent Island in the Chesapeake Bay.
The lighthouse is the third Chesapeake Bay lighthouse to be sold by the government this year. The Coast Guard will continue to maintain the light as a navigation aid.
Gabriel said that he intends to restore the lighthouse over the next few years and then offer it to the lighthouse society or the Maryland Historical Trust so that the public can see it. The restoration, which will include fully outfitted living quarters on several floors will take some time because Bloody Point’s interior was gutted by a fire in 1960.
