WILMINGTON, N.C. – Coast Guard Base Elizabeth City welcomed North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory, who presented a proclamation in honor of the service’s 226th birthday, Thursday.
Following the proclamation, McCrory visited with the base’s civilian employees, active duty and retired Coast Guardsmen, along with their friends and families.
The event included a live band, barbecue and many family-oriented games and activities.
Approximately 3,500 people attended the event.
McCrory last visited Base Elizabeth City in December 2014.
“This was an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the tremendous work our active duty, civilian, reserve and auxiliary workforce do in Elizabeth City,” said Cmdr. Bruce Brown, the commanding officer of Base Elizabeth City. “We were honored to spend time with Gov. McCrory and let him meet our families in a social setting as we celebrated Coast Guard Day!”
