WILMINGTON, N.C. — The New Hanover County, North Carolina, Board of Commissioners issued an official proclamation Monday in Wilmington that August 2016 be recognized as Coast Guard Month in New Hanover County.
The commissioners issued the proclamation at about 4 p.m. during a meeting at New Hanover Historic County Courthouse. Coast Guard Sector North Carolina personnel attended and thanked the board for their support and recognition.
“I want to thank the people of New Hanover County for all their support for our Coast Guard and our families,” said Capt. Patricia J. Hill, commander, Sector North Carolina. “Without being welcomed into New Hanover County communities, and without the tremendous support from New Hanover County Sheriffs out on the water, or the the county’s Emergency Management personnel, we would not be able to execute our missions as effectively. As we approach our service’s 226th birthday this Thursday, thank you for this wonderful proclamation.”
