Area Maritime Security Training Exercise Scheduled in Victoria, Texas

Victoria, Texas – U.S. Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi is sponsoring an Area Maritime Security Training Exercise Program (AMSTEP) on September 24, 2008 between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the University of Houston-Victoria, University Center in order to better strengthen the Nation’s ability prevent, respond, and recover from a transportation security incident in a maritime environment.

The goal of the exercise is to promote stakeholder involvement in awareness, prevention, and crisis management and recovery from a transportation security incident through outreach, coordination, and teamwork. Participants will be presented with different scenarios to assess the adequacy of the South Texas Area Maritime Security Plan. Results will then be used to improve readiness throughout the municipalities with a key interest in ports and waterways.

Participants in this discussion based table-top exercise will include the U.S. Coast Guard, port authorities and service providers, Victoria Barge Canal industry facility security officers, state homeland security agencies, emergency management and law enforcement personnel from the Calhoun and Victoria Counties as well as officials from the city of Victoria.

Due to the security-sensitive nature of the exercise, unauthorized persons and media will not be permitted access during the exercise.
