CAPE MAY, NJ – Sunday was Petty Officer 3rd Class Christye Greene’s first duty day as a small boat Coxswain at Coast Guard Station Cape May. She got to put her training to work right away.
Sunday afternoon the tugboat Sargasso Sea notified the Coast Guard that a crewmember was suffering from dizziness and blurred vision. With Greene at the helm, a 41-foot utility boat from the station made its way to the tug. Upon arrival the boats engineer, PO3 Dennis Dowell transferred to the Sargasso Sea to assess the patients condition and provide medical assitance. Dowell is one of three EMT certified crewmembers of Station Cape May.
Ryan Reed was transferred to the utility boat and transported to the station where he was taken by ambulance to Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital in Cape May Courthouse.
The other members of the rescue crew were PO3s Paul Peter and Chris Holmes.
