America’s Boating Course offered in Gig Harbor

SEATTLE (D13 Public Affairs) – The Bremerton Sail and Power Squadron is scheduled to teach an America’s Boating Course July 26 and 27 from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Rosedale Fire Station at 7710 Rosedale Street, Gig Harbor.

This comprehensive course offers basic boating information and instruction. The course meets the educational requirements for boating operation in all states and for the mandatory Boater’s Education Card.

People are reminded that boaters 20 years of age and younger will be required to have a Boater’s Education Card issued by the Washington State Parks Department to operate most boats. By 2009, all boaters 25 and younger must obtain a Boater’s Education Card.

Upon completion of the course, boaters may receive a discount on their insurance.

Course material is suitable for those 14 years and older.

There is a $35 fee for the workbook.

There is also a $5 charge for those from the same household that share a book.

Pre-registration is not required.

Subjects include but are not limited to boat handling under different conditions, required and recommended equipment, boating terminology, regulations, navigational rules, and line handling.
