JUNEAU, Alaska – A fire has reportedly been contained onboard the fishing vessel (F/V) Pacific Glacier 136 miles northeast of Dutch Harbor.
The Coast Guard Cutter Alex Haley arrived on scene with the F/V Pacific Glacier at approximately 12:00 a.m. Alaska Standard Time (AST), while crew members from the Pacific Glacier and volunteers from other vessels in the immediate area fought the fire until it was contained at approximately 5:00 a.m. AST.
The source of the fire appeared to be the vessel’s laundry room, but the fire had spread through the overhead to adjacent spaces including the galley. The master ordered evacuation of all personnel not engaged in firefighting. People on board were safely transferred to the F/V Northern Glacier and the F/V Seattle Enterprise by small boat and skiff.
The F/V Pacific Glacier contacted the Coast Guard at 6:26 p.m. yesterday requesting assistance with the fire.
Cutter Alex Haley will remain on scene to assist if needed. Aircraft from Air Station Kodiak also assisted with the response.
