Air Station Traverse City to host Open Ramp for National Cherry Festival Air Show

U.S. Coast Guard photo by Chief Petty Officer Scott Cowan.TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City will host an Open Ramp event Friday, July 3, 2015, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. as part of the 2015 National Cherry Festival Air Show.

The Open Ramp will highlight select National Cherry Festival Air Show aircraft to include the Air Force Thunderbirds, Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City’s MH-65D Dolphin helicopter, and other performers.

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the Coast Guard and Air Force servicemembers who operate the aircraft daily during military missions, as well as Cherry Capital Airport’s wildlife control canine Piper. Visitors will also be able to get close-up looks at the aircraft and learn from the operators what they are capable of.

Admission is free and the event is open to the public and handicapped accessible. Increased security measures will be in place. U.S. photo IDs will be required for admittance, and people, vehicles and bags will be subject to search. Parking is limited so carpooling is highly encouraged.
