Air Station Savannah Rescues Cesnna Pilot

SAVANNAH, Ga. – A Coast Guard search and rescue crew from Air Station Savannah rescued a pilot from his over-turned Cessna 152 aircraft in a field in Fort Stewart, Ga. at approximately 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

The helicopter crew was returning to Air Station Savannah from a previous search and rescue mission when it was diverted to assist the pilot Steven Carter, a resident of Waynesboro, Va., and his single-engine aircraft.

The rescue crew arrived on scene and brought Carter aboard the helicopter. Carter was then transferred to awaiting EMS at Liberty County Airport.

Carter did not have any injuries.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the cause of the incident.
