Air Station Savannah medevacs man 65 miles off Tybee Island

SAVANNAH, Ga. – A Coast Guard search and rescue team from Air Station Savannah medically evacuated a man from his vessel approximately 65-miles east of Tybee Island, Ga. Saturday morning.

Clay Weeks, Sr., 55, residence unknown, was aboard the 26-foot Missing for Weeks, when he started to suffer from a possible heart attack. He triggered his emergency positioning indicating radio beacon and contacted the Coast Guard on VHF channel 16 to request assistance.

A Coast Guard helicopter hoisted the man and brought him to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, S.C., in stable condition.

Missing for Weeks was then brought safely back to shore by other boaters aboard the vessel.
