MIAMI — Capt. Shawn Koch relieved Capt. Michael E. Platt as the commander of Coast Guard Air Station Miami, Thursday during a change-of-command ceremony at the air station.

Koch reported to Air Station Miami from Coast Guard 7th District where he was the chief of incident management for the district since July 2017. Platt will transfer to the position of executive assistant to the Coast Guard Director of Governmental and Public Affairs at Coast Guard Headquarters.

Rear Adm. Eric C. Jones, commander of Coast Guard 7th District, presided over the event.

Air Station Miami is comprised of 280 active duty members, 13 civilians and 54 auxiliarists.

The change-of-command ceremony is a time-honored tradition. It represents a total transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability from one individual to another.

The event ensures the continuity of leadership and operations within the sector’s area of responsibility.
