Air Station Detroit to Host Safe Boating Expo

DETROIT – Coast Guard Air Station Detroit will be hosting a safe boating expo and open house at Selfridge Air National Guard Base on May 17-18, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The purpose of having the expo is to educate the local boaters on how to file a float plan, to explain the risks of drinking and boating and to encourage all boaters regardless of age to wear an approved life jacket.

There will be various agencies on hand to answer questions to the public like Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Power Squadron, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Admin., Macomb Co. Sheriffs, Michigan Dept. of Natural Resources, Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Michigan Salvage Company.

The event is open to the public and will have various static and dynamic displays. .
