Air Station Detroit to hold Memorial Service

DETROIT – U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Detroit will be honoring the memory of Lt. Jack C. Rittichier with a memorial service at 11 a.m. on June 9, 2010 at Selfridge Air National Guard Base.

The memorial service will express the Coast Guard’s appreciation and gratefulness for the sacrifice that Lt. Jack C. Rittichier, Air Force Capt. Richard C. Yeend, Jr., Air Force Staff Sgt. Elmer L. Holden, and Air Force Sgt. James D. Locker, made during their attempt to rescue a downed marine pilot in Vietnam on June 9, 1968.

Cmdr. Daniel Travers, Commanding Officer of Air Station Detroit will make appropriate remarks to recognize and show gratitude to the families of the members listed above for their dedication to the Armed Forces.

Also honored will be Mr. Bill Forsyth, Lt. Cmdr. Eric Castillo, and Dr. Alex Christensen whose efforts were instrumental in locating and repatriating the remains of Lt. Rittichier and his crew through the efforts of Joint Task Force – Full Accounting (JTF-FA) thirty-nine years later.
