Air Facility Charleston medevacs fisherman off Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. – A Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crew from Air Facility Charleston medically evacuated a fisherman Saturday from a 42-foot fishing boat approximately 59-miles east of Charleston Harbor.

Rescued was Frederick Para, 68, hometown unknown.

The Coast Guard was notified at about 9:45 a.m. Saturday that a 68-year-old male aboard the 42-foot fishing boat Bigg Smiles was suffering from chest pains and required medical assistance. The Charleston based Coast Guard rescue helicopter crew launched and arrived on-scene at approximately 10:42 a.m.

Para was transported to the Medical University of South Carolina where he will be further evaluated by medical personnel.

The Coast Guard reminds all mariners, commercial and recreational, that VHF channel 16 is the radio frequency reserved for reporting international distress, safety and hailing for emergencies.
