A Veterans Day Wish

Veterans Day 2007Today is Veteran Day. Forget about what the government and bank say. They may celebrate it tomorrow but since it was originally called Armistice Day for a reason, today is the true day to honor our Armed Forces, both living and dead.

According to Wikipedia, Armistice Day is the anniversary of the official end of World War I, November 11, 1918. It commemorates the armistice signed between the Allies and Germany at Compiègne, France, for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front, which took effect at eleven o’clock in the morning — the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.” After World War II, it was changed to Veterans Day in the United States and to Remembrance Day in the British Commonwealth of Nations.

Today, take the time to stop and remember all those who have paid the ultimate price, and those who are serving now.

There will be no Coast Guard News today, only this reminder of those who are serving.
