A Moment of Silence for the Crew of CG Helo 6017

Today marks the one year anniversary of the CG Helo 6017 tragedy when the Coast Guard lost three shipmates. The 6017 crashed in the waters of La Push, Wa on July 7, 2010 while travelling from Astoria,Oregon to Sitka, Alaska. Lieutenant Sean Kruger, Petty Officer Adam Hoke and Petty Officer Brett Banks lost their lives serving our country. We should never forget their sacrifices and the families they left behind.

A moment of silence will be observed at 9:05 a.m. PST (12:05 p.m. EST) in memory of the CG 6017 crew, and all our service members who have made the ultimate sacrifice serving our nation with honor.

Coast Guard Air Station Sitka, in conjunction with the community and the Alaska Native Tribe of Sitka, will erect a traditional Southeast Alaska Totem Pole to honor our lost heroes on August 4, 2011. A walkway surrounded by benches will provide a place for quiet reflection at the memorial site. Donations to the memorial may be made through the Coast Guard Foundation.
