CHARLESTON, S.C. – A U.S. Coast Guard boatcrew from Station Tybee Island, Ga., medically evacuated a 56-year-old male from a jon boat in the Ossabaw Sound after he started to experience chest pains, Sunday.
A 911-relay call from Chatham County, Ga., alerted Coast Guard Sector Charleston at 3:36 p.m., Sunday of the 56-year-old’s condition.
After consulting a Coast Guard flight surgeon, a medical evacuation was determined necessary. A boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Tybee Island launched aboard a 45-foot Response Boat – Medium and arrived on scene with the jon boat at 4:25 p.m.
Coast Guardsmen safely transferred the man aboard the RB-M. The boat crew then took him ashore to awaiting emergency medical technicians.
The man’s condition is unknown.
