38-year-old man rescued by Coast Guard near Tarpon Springs

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A 38-year-old man was medically evacuated by Coast Guard helicopter crewmembers after sustaining an injury aboard a 47-foot fishing vessel, 89 miles west of Tarpon Springs, Fla., Saturday.

The operator aboard the fishing vessel, KDS, contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg at 4:06 p.m., stating a fellow crewmember had sustained injuries on his hand and needed immediate medical attention.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater was launched at 4:48 p.m.

The Jayhawk arrived on scene at 5:44 p.m., and safely hoisted the man into the cabin.

Due to inclement weather, the man was transported back to the air station where local emergency medical personnel were waiting to take him to Tampa General Hospital.
