ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A 31-year-old man was medically evacuated from a 36-foot commercial vessel by the Coast Guard approximately 33 miles northwest of Anclote Key, Fla., Tuesday.

A crewmember aboard the vessel Captain Bob contacted Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders at 8:55 a.m., via VHF-FM channel 16 radio reporting a man aboard the vessel was in need of medical assistance.

Watchstanders launched a 45-foot Response Boat – Medium boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Sand Key, Fla. The crew arrived on scene at 10:52 a.m., retrieved the man off the Captain Bob and transported him to Station Sand Key where he was met by EMS for medical evaluation.

“It is important for all boaters to have operable and up-to-date communications equipment onboard, especially when traveling long distances in rough weather,” said Jason Morris, search and rescue coordinator at the sector.
