3 rescued by Coast Guard crews near Andros Island, Bahamas

Southeastern Coast Guard NewsANDROS ISLAND, Bahamas — Three people were rescued by Coast Guard crews approximately 25 miles west of Andros Island, Monday.

A Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew was enroute to Great Inagua at approximately 2:20 p.m., when they were flagged down by three people in a homemade sailing vessel. The Jayhawk crew dropped a handheld VHF-FM radio and water to them but were unable to communicate due to a language barrier.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, deployed to the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center on Andros Island, arrived on scene and hoisted all three people and transported them to Bahamian Customs official in Nassau without incident.

No injuries were reported.
