SEATTLE — A Coast Guard Maritime Force Protection Unit (MFPU) Bangor boat crew rescued two adults after their kayaks overturned near Point No Point in Washington, Sunday.
The couple’s 12-year-old son contacted 911 on a cell phone and Coast Guard boat crews rescued and safely transferred the kayakers to local emergency medical service personnel waiting in Kingston.
At 3:40 p.m., Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound watchstanders received a report from Kitsap Emergency Dispatch personnel stating that a woman overturned her kayak after attempting to assist her husband, who was also in the water.
The MFPU boat crew arrived on scene aboard a 64-foot Special Purpose Craft-Screening Vessel to assist and transferred the mother, father and son to a Coast Guard Station Seattle boat crew aboard a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium, who transported the mariners to Kingston at approximately 4:30 p.m.
All three mariners were wearing lifejackets at the time of the rescue.
