San Francisco — Rear Adm. Paul Zukunft, Commander, 11th Coast Guard District, participated in a Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony at Coast Guard Station San Francisco, today. The ceremony celebrated the construction of a new Boat Maintenance Building at Yerba Buena Island.
The new building is a part of a larger $4.5 million renovation project that included updates to the Sector San Francisco gym, as well as office buildings. The project was funded in part by CALTRANS as an attempt to offset impacts to the Coast Guard base resulting from the demolition of two buildings which were located at the Bay Bridge construction site.
The Boat Maintenance facility, which will house Station San Francisco offices as well as a small crane and boat lift, includes energy efficient lighting, internal windows, and skylights to reduce energy consumption.
Rear Adm. Zukunft, Captain Paul Gugg, Commanding Officer of Sector San Francisco, and Senior Chief Petty Officer Brian Kastner, Officer in Charge of Station San Francisco, all provided comments at the ceremony prior to the ribbon cutting. Zukunft praised the fiscally responsible project for staying within anticipated budget, as well as the timeliness of completion.
