HOUSTON – The Coast Guard medevaced a 10-year-old girl from a cruise ship approximately 12 miles off Galveston, Texas, last night after it was reported she was suffering from Septic Arthritis in her left knee.
A watch stander at Coast Guard Sector Houston/Galveston received a call from a doctor on the Cruise Ship Ecstasy at about 6 p.m., requesting the girl be taken off the ship.
Coast Guard Station Galveston dispatched a rescue boat crew to rendezvous with the Ecstasy and at about 9 p.m., transferred the girl onto the Coast Guard boat. Heavy fog slowed the progress of the rescue boat and affected the trip back to Station Galveston. An ambulance was waiting at the Coast Guard pier to take the girl to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
