CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Fire Department/EMS transported two men to the hospital after the Corpus Christi Port Police Department recovered them from the water near Indian Point Monday afternoon.

At 3:45 p.m., a good Samaritan contacted Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi watchstanders and reported that two people were in the water near Indian Point and appeared to be in distress. A Corpus Christi Port Police Department boat crew arrived and took the two men out of the water, and began CPR on one man who was unresponsive.

A Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew arrived on scene at 4:04 p.m. and lowered a rescue swimmer onto the Port Police boat to continue performing CPR on the unresponsive man. The two men were then taken to Christus Spohn Hospital.

The men were reported to have been on a sailboat with two women prior to entering the water. Marina Patrol transferred the two women from the sailboat and towed it to the Corpus Christi Marina.

One man is reported to be deceased and the other is reported to be in stable condition.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
