1 dead, 1 injured after boat collision in Key West, Florida

MIAMI – One woman is dead and another injured after a boat collision in the vicinity of Mud Key, Florida, Thursday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Key West, Florida, were notified by a good Samaritan of a boat collision involving a 44-foot Catamaran and 55-foot sport fishing boat at approximately 4 p.m. Two women aboard the Catamaran were ejected into the water during the collision.

The Coast Guard launched an MH-60 search-and-rescue helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Florida, and a Coast Guard Station Key West boatcrew to respond alongside Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission crews. The Coast Guard aircrew arrived on scene, hoisted both women and transported them to Lower Keys Medical Center in Key West.

One of the females was later declared deceased and the other was reported in stable condition.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating the collision.
