Volunteers stuff holiday stockings for children

SEATTLE – Coast Guard members, along with family, friends and volunteers stuffed nearly 3,000 holiday stockings for homeless children from the Puget Sound area, at the Integrated Support Command gym at Pier 36 here Friday and Saturday.

The stockings were filled with gifts and essential items for homeless children up to 17-years old living in and out of shelters.

Holiday Stockings for Homeless Children is comprised of wives of retired and active duty Coast Guard personnel and friends. The volunteers have sewn, filled and delivered more than 15,000 stockings during the holidays since 1996.

Since last year’s holiday stocking event, there has been a 25 percent increase in the amount of stockings requested by local shelters and an estimated 500 street kids throughout the Puget Sound area.

The Holiday Stockings organization depends upon the ongoing financial support of its donors to continue to bring magic, smiles, hope and joy to children in need during the holiday season.
