Video – Coast Guard medevacs fisherman in Gulf of Mexico

Coast Guard District 8 NewsHOUSTON — The Coast Guard medevaced the captain of a fishing vessel, Monday, 109 miles off the coast of Galveston in the Gulf of Mexico.

Medevaced was Francisco Desor, 29.

Watchstanders at the Eighth Coast Guard District command center received a call at approximately 3 p.m., from the 78-foot fishing vessel, Captain RTG II, that Desor reportedly sustained injuries to his left arm from a winch.

A Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65C Dolphin helicopter and crew successfully hoisted and transported Desor to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

“We were able to both locate and hail the RTG II because they called channel 16 on VHF-FM, even though they were pretty far offshore,” said Lt. j.g. Ryan McCue, Air Station Houston MH-65C co-pilot. “Due to our rigorous, standardized Coast Guard training, we were able to provide swift and safe assistance for Mr. Desor.”

His condition is unknown.
