Vessel Hits Dam on the Ohio River near Smithland, Ky.

PADUCAH, Ky. - The Coast Guard was notified at approximately 8 a.m. today that a towing vessel had reportedly collided with Smithland Lock and Dam, located along the Ohio River near mile marker 918, near Smithland, Ky.
The motor vessel Nelson Lewis, was pushing one empty tank barge and 11 empty non-regulated barges. Two barges are reported missing and believed to have sunk. Two barges are damaged but remain afloat; eight including the empty tank barge are reported to be undamaged.
The incident is under investigation.
