Two people rescued from aground fishing boat

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – The Coast Guard and good Samaritans rescued two people after their 57-foot fishing boat ran aground and rolled on its side in Barnegat Inlet near Barnegat Lighthouse today.

Rescued was Luis Roberson, 43 of Atco, N.J., and Daniel Call, 47 of Brigantine, N.J.

The Coast Guard received a call at 7:51 a.m. from Roberson reporting that he was aboard the fishing boat Karen L and that it had run aground and is listing.

Both Roberson and Call donned cold-water immersion suits and abandoned ship. They were immediately rescued by good Samaritans who pulled them out of the water onto their boat.

A Coast Guard boat crew from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light arrived on scene and transferred the two survivors aboard their 25-foot rescue boat.

Roberson and Call were transported to Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light.

The owner of the Karen L is working with Seatow on a salvage plan.

“I called the Coast Guard when the boat started to list really heavy and I had no control over it at all,” said Luis Roberson, Captain of the fishing boat Karen L. “I was only able to get out two calls before we had to jump into the water and the Coast Guard was on the scene with in a couple of minutes.
