Training Center Cape May Scheduled to Participate In Numerous Local Veterans Day Events

CAPE MAY, N.J. Coast Guardsmen will participate in numerous Veterans Day events to help commemorate the service of America’s military members, Friday.

The Coast Guard Training Center Cape May’s ceremonial staff will provide buglers, a color guard and firing parties at a number of community events in honor of Veterans Day. Senior officials from the training center are also expected to be present.

“Veterans Day is about honoring those who have decided to serve nation before self,” said Capt. Owen Gibbons, the commanding officer of Coast Guard Training Center Cape May. “Here at Coast Guard Training Center Cape May, we strive to ensure our service’s newest volunteers are not only ready to meet the mission demands of the fleet, but to take pride in becoming part of that lineage of men and women, our veterans, who have served this great nation with honor.”

Friday morning, service members at Training Center Cape May will begin Veterans Day with a ceremony at the Signalman 1st Class Douglas Munro Memorial, here. Active duty and prior service members, including members of local veterans’ organizations, will attend the ceremony.

Additionally, Coast Guardsmen will join the City of Cape May and members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for a Veterans Day observance at the Columbia Ave. War Memorial in Cape May from 11 a.m. to 1:45 a.m. A color guard, bugler and firing party will be at this event.

Training center staff will also attend the Veterans Day Ceremony at the Cape May County Veterans’ Cemetery in Cape May Court House, N.J., from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. A bugler, color guard and firing party from the Training Center will be present for this event.

Lastly, on Monday, Nov. 14, a Coast Guard color guard and bugler will participate in the Maurice River Township Elementary School Veterans’ Celebration from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
