Tours, fun activities and courtesy boat inspections at Station Humboldt Bay Open House

Coast Guard Station Humboldt BaySAMOA, Calif. – Coast Guard Station Humboldt Bay has scheduled its first Open House Saturday, Oct. 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The public can take the opportunity to bring their family and friends to tour the historic station building, climb aboard the rescue boats, and see the rescue helicopters. Coast Guard boat handlers and pilots are available to speak with the public about how the Coast Guard rescues mariners in some of the most dangerous seas in California.

“This open house will be a great time for the community to have some fun and see how the Coast Guard works to protect them,” said Chief Petty Officer Tim Tregoning, executive petty officer of Station Humboldt Bay. “They will also be able to tour our historic station.”

Our partner agencies will also be here for festivities. The Humboldt County Sherriff’s Office, California Department of Fish and Game will have their response boats on display. A bulldozer and fire trucks from California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection will also be available.

The public can prepare their boats and personal watercraft for safety by bringing their vessels to the open house for free vessel safety inspections by the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Through Operation Paddle Smart, the Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary are working jointly with state boat agencies to educate owners about the importance of marking personal watercraft (canoes, kayaks, and other smaller recreational vessels) with contact information. Station crew will hand out free, weather-proof Paddle Smart ID stickers.
