Three rescued from overturned boat near Winchester Bay, Oregon

NORTH BEND, Ore. — The Coast Guard rescued three people from an overturned fishing vessel near Winchester Bay, Ore., Tuesday.

Coast Guard Group North Bend received a report of an overdue vessel at approximately 12 a.m. and launched an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station North Bend along with a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Station Umpqua River to locate the fishing vessel’s crew.

The reporting source informed the Coast Guard they could see a strobe light flashing approximately one half-mile from shore and the helicopter crew discovered all three people atop the hull of the 38-foot fishing vessel, which had overturned. The motor lifeboat crew safely pulled the people from the vessel and took them to shore where emergency medical personnel were waiting. All three were in good condition.

Weather on scene consisted of 3-4-foot waves and 10-15 mph winds. The water temperature was 53 degress.
