The Port of Key West reopens to commercial and recreational traffic

Southeastern Coast Guard NewsMIAMI – Effective 3 p.m. Monday, Coast Guard Captain of the Port, Aylwyn Young, reopened the Port of Key West, Fla., to commercial and recreational vessel traffic due to Tropical Storm Isaac no longer expecting to affect the Florida Keys with sustained gale force winds.

Vessels may now enter or transit within the Florida Keys and the Port of Key West. The Florida Keys are currently under a small craft advisory.

“Mariners are advised to use their best judgment before operating their vessels as squalls and strong thunderstorms related to Tropical Storm Isaac are still possible this afternoon and into this evening. Wind and sea states have placed constraints on the Coast Guard’s offshore response capabilities in some areas,” said Capt. Aylwyn Young.

The aids to navigation for Key West Harbor are on station and working properly.

All mariners are reminded to keep a sharp lookout and report all hazards to the Captain of the Port, Key West. For additional information, please call Coast Guard Sector Key West at (305) 292-8727.
