GEORGETOWN, S.C. – The crew of Coast Guard Station Georgetown is to receive the Sumner I. Kimball Readiness Award, Wednesday at 11 a.m., aboard Coast Guard Station Georgetown. The Kimball Award, named after Sumner I. Kimball the General Superintendent of the Life-Saving Service from 1878-1915, was established in 2001. The award recognizes Coast Guard boat force units that exemplify the Coast Guard’s motto of always ready. On average, approximately 15 Coast Guard units receive the Kimball Award annually. Rear Adm.
