Committee warns public of hazardous debris from Hurricane Ike
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - In recent weeks, the Coast Guard, Texas General Land Office, Texas Commission of Environmental Quality, and State and Federal Park Rangers have located and recovered more than 70 drums, 40 totes, and 100 5-gallon containers from local area beaches that are potentially hazardous to citizens and the environment.
Coast Guard medevacs man from oil rig
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - A Coast Guard helicopter crew medevaced a 52-year-old man from an oil rig 26-miles east of Port O’Connor, Texas early this afternoon.
A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi received a call at 12:33 p.m. from an employee on Hercules 152 oil rig reporting a worker was suffering from a heart attack.
A HH-65C Dolphin helicopter was launched; the rescue helicopter safely hoisted and transported the man and a paramedic to Citizen’s Memorial Hospital in Victoria, Texas.
The man was last reported to be in stable condition.
Coast Guard medevacs crewmember - With Video
Port O’Connor, Texas - A Coast Guard helicopter crew medevaced a 44-year-old man from a deck barge 7 miles east of the Matagorda Jetties early this afternoon.
A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi received a call at 11:54 a.m. from an EMS company in Lake Charles, La. reporting a crewmember on board the deck barge Arapaho suffering from chest pains.
Air Station Corpus Christi launched an HH-65C rescue helicopter crew to assist. The rescue helicopter crew safely hoisted the man and an emergency medical technician off the barge and transported them to Citizen’s Memorial Hospital in Victoria.
The man was last reported to be in stable condition.
This was the first live hoist for pilot, Lt. j.g. William Haywood.

Coast Guard searching for missing swimmer
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Coast Guard is conducting a search for a 34-year-old man, Larry Tate, who was reported missing off mile marker 61 on Mustang Island 250 yards offshore in the Gulf of Mexico at 9:20 this morning.
A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi received a call at 9:50 a.m. from Mr. Tate’s sister, reporting that she was on the beach and watched him go down while he was swimming.
An HH-65C Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Corpus Christi was launched to search the area. Station Port Aransas dispatched a rescue boat crew to assist in the search.
The Coast Guard plans to continue searching the area this evening and early tomorrow morning with aircraft and boats.

Area Maritime Security Training Exercise Scheduled in Victoria, Texas
Victoria, Texas - U.S. Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi is sponsoring an Area Maritime Security Training Exercise Program (AMSTEP) on September 24, 2008 between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the University of Houston-Victoria, University Center in order to better strengthen the Nation’s ability prevent, respond, and recover from a transportation security incident in a maritime environment.
The goal of the exercise is to promote stakeholder involvement in awareness, prevention, and crisis management and recovery from a transportation security incident through outreach, coordination, and teamwork. Participants will be presented with different scenarios to assess the adequacy of the South Texas Area Maritime Security Plan. Results will then be used to improve readiness throughout the municipalities with a key interest in ports and waterways.
Participants in this discussion based table-top exercise will include the U.S. Coast Guard, port authorities and service providers, Victoria Barge Canal industry facility security officers, state homeland security agencies, emergency management and law enforcement personnel from the Calhoun and Victoria Counties as well as officials from the city of Victoria.
Due to the security-sensitive nature of the exercise, unauthorized persons and media will not be permitted access during the exercise.
Coast Guard suspends search for 19 -year-old man
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - After a two-day effort, the Coast Guard has suspended its active search today at 9 p.m. for Michael Moxley, the 19-year-old man who went missing south of the Packery Channel jetties late Friday afternoon.
Coast Guard crews searched more than 87 square miles, including overlapping searches, multiple shoreline searches, and nearby oil rigs, along the Padre Island coast and into the Gulf of Mexico.
A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi received a phone call at 5:42 p.m. Friday from the Corpus Christi Police Department reporting a group of four people were swept off the southern jetty of Packery Channel by a wave. Three people were recovered and the last person was unable to be located.
Coast Guard crews involved in the search included three HH-65C Dolphin helicopter crews from Air Station Corpus Christi, the crew of the cutter Steelhead from Station Port Aransas, and security patrol crews on the beach.

A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi received a call at 5:42 p.m. from the Corpus Christi Police Department, reporting a group of four people were swept off the sourthern jetty of Packery Channel by a wave.
An HH-65C Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Corpus Christi was launched last night and early this morning to search for the missing 19 year-old man.
The Coast Guard plans to continue searching the area this afternoon with a helicopter.

Coast Guard searches for missing man
CORPUS Christi, Texas - The Coast Guard is conducting a search for a 19-year-old man who was reported missing off the Packery Channel jetties this evening.
A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi received a call at 3:42 p.m. from the Corpus Christi Police Department, reporting that a group of four people were knocked off the southern jetty of Packery Channel by a wave. Three people from the group were recovered by Good Samaritans and taken to EMS that were on scene.
An HH-65C Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Corpus Christi was launched to search for the last person of the group.
The Coast Guard plans to continue searching the area tomorrow morning.
