Humboldt Bay Coast Guard Responds to Rafting Accident on Smith River
McKinleyville, Calif. – Coast Guard Air Station Humboldt Bay received a report of three people in the water on the Smith River, east of Crescent City, Calif. At approximately 3 p.m. today.
Coast Guard searching for missing Guam spear fisherman
HAGATNA, Guam — The U.S. Coast Guard was notified at midnight Wednesday of a missing fisherman near a reef off Inajaran, Guam. Friends reported the fisherman’s last known position to the Coast Guard’s 24-hour command center in Apra Harbor.
Coast Guard crew rescues 1 near Westville, N.J.
WESTVILLE, N.J.- The Coast Guard rescued a man aboard a disabled jet ski Thursday in the Delaware River here.
The Coast Guard received a call at 2 p.m. from a member of the Sunoco Chemicals’ Eagle Point Refinery in Westville reporting a man aboard a disabled jet ski near their pier needed assistance.
A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Philadelphia arrived on scene and towed the jet ski and the man to Big Timber Creek marina near Westville.
Coast Guard Station Chincoteague Rescues Boaters
PORTSMOUTH, VA. - A 23-foot rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Chincoteague, Va., rescued two mariners in distress in the midst of poor weather conditions today
A call for assistance came into Accomack County, Va., emergency services at approximately 4:55 p.m., reporting a disabled boat and Jet Ski in Chincoteague Bay just north of the Greenbackville, Va., harbor. Station Chincoteague launched a rescue craft in conjunction with a 27-foot Virginia Marine Police boat.
Upon arriving on-scene, the operator informed the crew that his brother had drifted away on a jet ski. The boat crews located the Jet Ski with out the operator onboard. After a shoreline search for the Jet Ski, the boat crews found the operator floating in the water.
The crews rescued both men and delivered them to Greenbackville Harbor where local emergency services personnel transported the Jet Ski operator to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md., for further evaluation.
Mariners are reminded to wear life jackets while on the water, check the pending weather conditions prior to boating, and file a float plan with a family or friends detailing where you intend to operate and what time you anticipate returning.
Coast Guard Rescues 2 on Disabled Jet Ski
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - The Coast Guard rescued two people Tuesday aboard a disabled jet ski in the Intracoastal Waterway near Sea Isle City, N.J.
The Coast Guard received a call at 11 p.m. from a family member reporting two people had not returned from a jet skiing trip.
A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Townsend Inlet, N.J., located the jet skiers near Mill Thorofare off the Intracoastal Waterway in good condition.
The jet skiers reported they ran out of gas.
The rescue boat crew towed the jet skiers back to Sea Isle City.
“Boaters are always encouraged to be prepared when they go out on their boats,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Trista Fisher, a search and rescue coordinator at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay. “This includes ensuring they have proper safety and communication equipment and have enough fuel to reach their destination safely.”
Teen on Jet Ski Rescued Near Fire Island
NEW YORK (CG Public Affairs) - A 16-year-old West Islip, N.Y., native, was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard after he ran aground on a jet ski and began taking on water near Fire Island, N.Y., around 2:53 p.m. today.
The teen punctured the hull of his jet ski after running aground during a recreational boating trip. The Coast Guard received a phone call requesting assistance. A 25-foot rescue boat crew was already underway at the time of the incident.
“We were returning from another case when the station got the call,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Martin Konoako, a Coast Guard boat crewmember who responded to the incident. “When we got the position we realized we were nearby, looked to our left and saw the jet ski tied up to another boat. We went over and asked if he needed assistance, which he did, and we took the jet ski in side-tow. We used our hand-pump to dewater the vessel as we headed back to the marina.”
The teen was wearing a lifejacket at the time of the incident and there were no reports of injury or pollution. The Coast Guard strongly urges recreational boaters to maintain situational awareness and to wear lifejackets while enjoying recreational activities.
Weather on scene was reported at five mile per hour winds and one to two foot seas.
