WASHINGTON – At a ceremony held at Coast Guard Headquarters on 31 OCT 08, Commodore Nicholas Kerigan relieved Commodore Steve Budar to become the 29th National Commodore for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
The ceremony, which was presided over by ADM Thad Allen, Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, also sworn in other national leaders for the 2 year term ending 31 OCT 2010.

Coast Guard anticipates closing multiple river bars in Northwest
SEATTLE — The Coast Guard anticipates possible restrictions to multiple river bars throughout Oregon and Washington. The restrictions may begin as early as Friday night due to the potential for extreme winds and heavy seas that are expected through the region over the following few days. Should extreme weather require the closure of all or a portion of the bars, the Coast Guard will issue a broadcast notice to mariners with regulation advisories.

Coast Guard classifies paddleboards as vessel
WASHINGTON - The U.S. Coast Guard in a decisional memo dated Oct.3, classified paddleboards as vessels in accordance with Title 1 United States Code, Section 3.
This classification means that when used beyond the narrow limits of a swimming, surfing, or bathing area, no person may use a paddleboard unless in compliance with the Navigation Rules, and applicable carriage requirements for this type of vessel. Read the rest of this entry »
