Video - Coast Guard Rescues Four from Tug

NAPLES, Fla.- Crewmembers from Coast Guard Air Station Miami hoist four crewmembers from a tug-and-barge that was taking on water Nov. 22, about 30 miles west of Naples. Crewmembers from the Coast Guard Cutter Pea Island, a 110-foot cutter homeported in Key West, Fla., and Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla., also assisted.


Coast Guard rescues 4 aboard sinking tug boat

MIAMI - The Coast Guard rescued four men Saturday aboard a sinking tug boat 26 miles west of the Shark River, inside Everglades National Park, Fla.

Coast Guard Sector Key West, Fla., received a radio distress call from a member aboard the Saint Johns, a 58-foot tugboat, reporting they were taking on water and sinking.

Air Station Miami launched two HH-65C rescue helicopter crews to assist. The crews arrived on scene and safely hoisted all four men. Two of the men were transported to Naples, Fla., and the remaining men were transported to Opa Locka, Fla.,

The Coast Guard Cutter Pea Island, a 110-foot cutter, and an HC-130 Hercules air crew from Air Station Clearwater, Fla., assisted in the rescue efforts.

“This successful case highlights the importance of having a working VHF-FM radio onboard, being prepared and having the proper safety equipment,” said Lt. Brent Kenny, a search and rescue controller at Sector Key West.

No injuries were reported.

Coast Guard suspends search for more than 90 Dominicans

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Coast Guard rescue crews suspended their search at 7 p.m. Wednesday for a missing yola (boat) with more than 90 Dominican migrants aboard, that reportedly went missing while traveling illegally to Puerto Rico from the Dominican Republic.
