Surveys indicate Shoaling in New Topsail Inlet and Old Topsail Creek

FORT MACON, N.C. – Mariners are advised that based on an Army Corps of Engineers survey significant shoaling has occurred in New Topsail Inlet and Old Topsail Creek. Depths in New Topsail Inlet were recorded as low as 1.9 feet between buoys 4a and 6, and Old Topsail Creek depths were recorded as low as 2.5 feet in the vicinity of buoy 6. The recent shoaling may pose a risk of grounding and damage to vessels operating in this area.

Mariners should exercise caution when transiting the area.
