Stalled Cruise Ship in Tampa Bay

TAMPA, Fla. – Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg is investigating the cruise ship Ryndam, of Holland America Line, after the vessel lost power in the center of Tampa Bay at about 7 p.m. yesterday.

The 720-foot cruise ship was outbound in the channel when it suddenly lost power. The vessel was running on generators for about a half hour before it regained power to its main engines and propulsion. The vessel is being escorted to Fairway Anchorage, 10-miles west of Egmont Key, where members from the Class Society and the Coast Guard will investigate why the ship lost power.

The channel around the vessel has been closed until the ship is moved.

The cruise ship is reported to have 1,229 passengers on board with no health concerns.
