Search for 59-year-old man continues near Key West

MIAMI — The Coast Guard continues searching for a 59-year-old man in the vicinity of Lakes Passage near Key West, Tuesday.

Missing is Robert McCabe, 59, last seen wearing gray swim trunks and reported falling overboard a 27-foot cabin cruiser west of Key West.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Key West received a distress call from the cabin cruiser at 6:25 p.m. Sunday, reporting McCabe fell overboard. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Miami, and two Coast Guard Station Key West boatcrews were launched to commence the search.

Multiple aircrews and boatcrews from the Coast Guard, Naval Air Station Key West, and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission continue searching. Combined search efforts have covered an area over 748 square miles, roughly the size of Rhode Island.
