San Francisco based Coast Guard unit deploys to Middle East

ALAMEDA, Calif. — A San Francisco-based Coast Guard unit left on a deployment to the Middle East today. Crewmmebers from Port Security Unit 312, located near the San Francisco International Airport, have been deployed to provide support and protection for high-value assets.

PSU 312 consists of 105 Coast Guard Reservists and six active duty members. There are an additional 14 Coast Guardsmen from other units that are also deployed with PSU 312.

The San Francisco based unit will be providing relief for PSU 301 from Cape Cod, Mass.

PSU 312 was commissioned in 2005. The unit was previously deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in 2006.
